Born to a mom from India and a dad from small-town Mississippi, Anisa Sullivan Jimenez has lived her life with one foot in the Eastern world and one in the Western world. Having this perspective is what began shaping her into the communications expert that she is today. With a career that spans both the public and private sectors, Anisa shares her personal story, insight into the foundation for effective communications, why facts don’t change people’s minds, and how you can navigate difficult scenarios while keeping colleague and customer relationships intact.
With a 20-year career in strategic communications, Anisa Sullivan Jimenez believes that effective communication is the single most important skill for any leader to hold. She currently serves as Strategic Director of Communications for SMJ Communications, a firm that serves education-focused clients across the United States. In her role, she leads the facilitation and strategic planning division of the firm. Prior to her current position, she was the Director of Communications for Oconee County Schools, the Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Clarke County School District, worked in public relations at the University of Georgia and was a columnist for the Athens Banner-Herald.
